Everything you need to know about acupuncture, your appointment, and how Larissa can help.
Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the body's own healing response. It has been practised for thousands of years and is used to address a wide range of physical, emotional, and mental health concerns.
Most people are surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. The needles used are extremely fine, much thinner than injection or blood-test needles. You may feel a slight tingling, warmth, or dull ache when a needle is inserted, which is a positive sign that the point is responding. Many people find the overall experience deeply relaxing.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Larissa may need access to your lower arms, lower legs, and abdomen, so clothing that can be easily rolled up or adjusted is ideal. Gowns and blankets are available if needed.
This varies depending on your condition, how long you've had it, and how your body responds. Some acute conditions may improve in 2–4 sessions, while chronic or complex issues may benefit from a longer course of treatment. Larissa will discuss a recommended plan with you and adjust it as needed.

Cupping involves placing glass or silicone cups on the skin to create gentle suction. It helps release muscular tension, improve blood flow, and support the body's natural detoxification process. It's often used alongside acupuncture and is very effective for back, shoulder, and neck tension.
Moxibustion is a warming treatment that uses dried mugwort herb (moxa) held close to the skin or on acupuncture points. The gentle, penetrating warmth helps to improve circulation, boost energy, and support conditions associated with cold or deficiency.

Most people feel deeply relaxed and calm after acupuncture. Some feel gently energised. Occasionally you may feel a little tired or light-headed, which is normal. It's best to drink water, avoid strenuous activity, and give yourself a gentle evening after your session.
